You know it, you hate it, the writing is inane, the point of view insane. It’s the BP “Oil for Chocolate” ad:
Announcer: “What would you rather have, a cleaner environment or your car?”
Talent: “…asking someone to give up their car… that’s like asking them to give up chocolate, it’s just not going to happen”
Ummmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm, no. Asking someone to give up their car is NOT like asking them to give up chocolate. If it were, the environment would be cleaner toot sweet. And the the m&m guys would have a price on their heads.

Amen,
I sent the following message to BP:
I appreciate that you are trying to appear sensitive to environmental concerns, but your “give up my car, that’s like giving up chocolate” commercial has got to be the stupidest thing I’ve ever seen. I spend almost $1000 dollars a month between car payments, gas, insurance, maintenance and repairs. If I could give that up and still get to work and around town, I would do it in a minute. Like giving up chocolate? You’re insane. I’m not saying that I’m never going to buy BP gas or anything like that, but man, when I need gas and I see a BP station, I think of that ridiculous commercial and keep driving. And if I ever hear some environmental nut job say something like “We could save the world if everyone would give up their cars, you know it’s like giving up chocolate.” I may just have an embolism and die on the spot. Do you really want my death on your conscience?
Sincerely,
David Landers
