There has been a lot of crazy speculation lately as to why American Express Financial Advisors chose Ameriprise for their new name, but there is only one valid argument: it’s got Ameripeal. Nothing gets the corporate stamp of approval faster than the notion of baaing with the crowd.
Here are the names of some like-minded financial services companies:
Ameribank, Ameribanq, Americapital, Americash, Ameridebt, Ameridreams, Amerifirst, AmeriGroup, Amerimortgage, Amerinational, Amerinet, Amerione, Ameriplan, Ameripro, Ameriserv, Ameristar, Ameritrade, Ameritrust
Ameriprise fits in like your favorite well-worn Q-tip.

Not quite… it’s to remind people of it’s American Express pedigree. More akin to Genworth Financial coming out of General Electric.

Ameriprise works lots better than American Express because I think lots of people envisioned credit cards when they heard AMEX. Now Ameriprise can break from the credit card appearance and focus on financial planning which they do very well.
Don’t visit those websites mentioned in the other comment. You cannot generalize an entire people based upon the action of a few individuals. If we did, we would repeat the terrible acts that history has taught us not to repeat.
