Landor name droppings

A Chicago-based British Petroleum spin-off has a new name, “Innovene”, thanks to naming giant Landor. According to an article in Chicago Business:

BP chose the moniker after extensive interviews with employees, customers and industry analysts and with assistance from Landor Associates, a brand consulting firm, said Innovene spokesman Ben Moxham.

The word already describes a process used to make polyethylene, Moxham said. The name’s –ene suffix will also stir, in chemists at least, images of the double carbon bond that’s a building block of the company’s products, Moxham said.

“But if you take a literal reading of it, it also stresses innovation and making a difference,” he said.

And to the south, Landor has crafted the name “Click” for a Mexican airline. Why Click? It’s an Internet thing, like adding “i” or “e” to the beginning of a word, but not as dated-sounding. Not yet. From today’s press release:

The name Click, is the result of a study carried out by Landor, a renowned worldwide firm specializing in branding – brand positioning. The word Click is easy to pronounce in any language, it communicates speed and technology and refers to the sales channel in which we will offer our best rates, Click’s own website.

The airline launches in July. Fingers crossed that a new piece of technology doesn’t replace the clicking computer mouse before then. Or in the next twenty years.

The name Click will surely put fear into the competing Uruguayan airline named Telephono.
