I do agree with the person who wrote this and they are not being overly picky.

I have lived in both San Francisco and Sausalito and LOVE BOTH.

And there is a big difference between looking at the Pacific Ocean with the waves and shoreline and looking at a Bay.

I like Inn above the Tides, and it certainly is not inexpensive. I enjoy their continental breakfast, the smallness of it tucked away from the crowds on the main street, and SOME of the rooms have a great view looking at the skyline of San Francisco ACROSS the BAY.

There is virtually no hotel in San Francisco or Sausalito that gives one a great view of the Pacific Ocean or shoreline. You are looking at BAY, no matter which side of the Bay you are in.

I agree with the writer, the one thing that bugs me is when good hotels overstate things, or put something down that is incorrect. At least this property corrected it, a rather misleading quote.

It makes me wonder if GoNomad knows their stuff. There is a major difference between a bay and and the Pacific Ocean..

Re: "Only if it is necessary to distinguish between ..."
Only if it is necessary to distinguish between what is Bull Crap and what is truth.
A recent George Will column reports that a recent Scottsdale AZ Unified School Board directive now classifies what used to be called a receptionist as "Director of First Impressions" and well known School Bus Driver is now "Transporter of Learners."
Mr Cowan, are you possibly a nomenclature consultant for the Scotttsdale School District? If not, they could use someone with a devious mind like yours immediately.

One more analogy. I wrote the post and have lived in Sausalito for the last 11 years. I can see The Inn Above Tide as I write this. They took a reporters mistaken quote and put it on their site knowing it was absurd. Notice that their own web copy never mentions a view of the ocean. As a native New Yorker, my NYC analogy would be a hotel in Weehawken boasting " the best view of the Atlantic Ocean of any hotel in New Jersey" based on the justification that Weehawken has a view of the Hudson, which is tidal at that point.

I tell you what, you can go stay on the pacific side from Sausalito, and I'll stay in Sausalito, and we'll see who has a better time on vacation. Oh wait, you can't, because it's a national park on the other side. Saying sausalito has a PO view relates in any way to staying in long island city is an interesting point, but missing the fact that Sausalito has amazing views of the water, and is a VERY nice place to stay.

John - How would you feel if you took a trip to New York city and booked a hotel that said "just minutes from Times Square and the theater district" and the hotel ended up being in an industrial zone in Long Island City, Queens? Now, technically they weren't lying because Queens is in fact, *minutes* from Times Square. 8 to be exact, when you take the #7 Subway, not counting walking up 2 flights of stairs and waiting on the platform.

Can you imagine booking a room at this hotel for $350 a night, bring ing you family from the heartland on vacation and finding there will be no glorius sun setting into the water in the west, no sand, no surf, no beach, no bikinis? Everglades water comes from the sea, but it's a swamp, not the sea. Nor is a room on Tampa Bay an oceanside room.

San Francisco Bay is part of the Pacific Ocean; it's tidal water. Only if it is necessary to distinguish between "ocean side" and "bay side" does it matter.
