A new Lo: Wal-Mart, whose prices are so low that a good portion of their employees receive food stamps to make ends meet, has come up with an additional way to make you feel good about shopping there. The mega retailer recently unveiled its new house brand of low-end electronic goods, named…wait for it…iLo.
And just in case anyone that buys an iLo TV or DVD player needs reminding what kind of low-rent consumers they have become, the aspirational iLo logo is prominently displayed on each and every device.
On the other end of the consumer electronic spectrum, Samsung just developed the world’s largest HDTV, a 102-inch plasma behemoth. That’s an eight-and-a-half foot diagonal picture folks, big enough for a life-size head-to-shoe representation of Shaquille O’Neal, even if those shoes are 17-inch pumps.

You have to be a Union Member to come up with that crap.
2 D.C. // Apr 9, 2006 at 10:04 pm
Maybe they could pay union wages and then the TV wouldn’t be so “low-end”. Anyway, I got one and like it so much I am going to buy another one….

WOW…What venom and none of it pertinent. The simple fact of life on planet Earth is that things change. It’s called progress. Big Box marketers have replaced the Mom & Pop stores. Every Wal-Mart employee voluntarily applied for their job. None are conscripted or forced to be there. Get over it…Socialism has been tried….it failed.
On that note, I think I’ll go by an ilo TV just to support a successful capitalist venture that brings better products at a lower price.

Walmart is socialism, my tax dollars help their employees feed themselves in the form of food stamps.
5 David // Jun 10, 2006 at 7:49 pm
What a pin head! Do you somehow fancy yourself as the champion of the poor and oppressed masses of people all over the world? Is it only Walmart employees - or will any old garden variety employee due? (At least the ones that make less per hour that you do.) I’ll bet you whine about the salaries that the CEOs and the “captains of industry” in this country are paid too? I guess any body who earns less than you is being exploited and anyone making more than you is ripping everybody else off, right? If you were Goldie Lochs, then your job and salary must be juuust righhht. This is America - these people are free to work anyplace they want. They work, pay taxes, and live real lives. Idiots like you spend your lives flying the banner of victimhood and stand upon the soap-box of self-righteousness making sure that everybody else knows that they don’t measure up to your standards. Why don’t you drive over to your local Walmart and take one of these hard working Walmart Associates out to lunch one day? (You might actually learn something about life)

Look, the name “iLo” just plain sucks. I don’t give a rat’s ass about the politcs, the name sucks. Stop making excuses or attacking us — we’re just pointing out that the name is idiotic.
And yes, they do treat their employees poorly. But least you think we are a bunch of “socialists” who are “enemies of capitalism”, I’ll give a positive example: CostCo treats its employees very well. And no, I don’t shop at either place, so I’d say I’m about as unbiased as possible.
So there’s you’re scandal du jour: Snark Hunting thinks well of CostCo management and poorly of WallMart management. Woo-hoo! Go flame the world!

so is the ilo brand tv any good? i’m a fresh college grad on a budget, so if i can get a 32″ hdtv from walmart for the same price as a 20″ tv that says sony on it, i don’t care how bad the name is. but my question remains, is the quality good?
9 Matthew // Jun 22, 2006 at 9:14 pm
You all sound like a bunch of inexperienced morons. Wal Mart may not be the only enemy but they are tearing down our economy. The people are “forced” to work there because Wal Mart comes to a town and forces most of the other businesses out because they can’t sell and cheaply, literally and figuratively. The people have to work somewhere.
Sure they pay taxes to the city, state, whatever, but they get far more breaks than they pay.
if Wal Mart makes a cheaper tv it will not force the prices of others down, just the quality of the televisions available. If people are willing to pay a little bit for crap instead of more for quality, why should anyone make quality equipment anymore. We are only hurting ourselves by supporting the new low end Wal Mart brand.
PS
We are a Union family and are glad of it everday as we watch non-union jobs taken over by illegals willing to work for so little they have to accept welfare to survive.

Almost all the people that work at the Wal-Mart that I shop , are forein born. By the way this country’s standard of living that we all enjoy was won by unions..This is a fact.. I am not a member but I thank them for all they have done for all of us.

We bought 42″ ILO for Xmas and it lasted five months before it started blinking out. I brought it back to WalMart and the manager refused to do anything and was extremely rude. I called the number on the reciept, then i had to e-mail the tech unit. They finally authorized repair but covered only parts. The labor was a minimum of $296.00. Usually WalMart is good about returns but this time they sucked. The tech lady also told me that if i got it repaired by anyone other than the high priced shop, it would void the warranty. So much for me shopping at WAl-Mart agian. Don
13 Quintin // Jul 16, 2006 at 8:27 am
Perhaps a little more research on your part would have revealed that ILO is a leader in the electronics industry throughout Europe being based in Germany. Their quality is proven. Have you ever tried Google? Seek facts before showing your supidity.
14 Sarah // Jul 19, 2006 at 8:33 pm
Way to go Quintin, at least someone has done their homework before speaking out on a subject that they know nothing about. ILO has been manufacturing high quality, premier resolution TV for the medical field in europe for years….their quality is so good it was used to develop gastric cameras and recording devices, yup you guessed it to look up your ass to make sure there isn’t anything growing there that shouldn’t be. So for all you who are against Wal mart bringing a good quality tv to the market for those of us who can’t afford the $4,000+ HDTV’s, just remember when your colon is on film Walmart capitalized where no one else thought of going…..up your ass!

OK - forget the name, the store - the BRAND sucks. I have a 26″ LCD that has died TWICE in less thsan one year!!!! They have NO customer service. Their website goes to a Warner Bros cartoon, they don’t give a service center for repair and I have spent hurs just finding the manufacturer. Glad you told me it was THEM. By the way, the same week I bought 2 Plasmas from Best Buy and there has been no problems. THIS ilo is a bedroom TV and not used as much. I’m pissed!
16 Gary // Jul 28, 2006 at 1:00 pm
Don’t buy an ILO LCD or Plasma TV of any size, they are junk! Their name should be JUNKO! Fuzzed out picture, poor resolution, pixel is incorrect, etc. I was an electronics repair tech and know what to and what not to buy in electronics. Walmart is just selling them because they are cheap! Just look at the Panasonic or even a Sanyo. Sanyo is probably you best buy for the money. Panasonic will cost you more, but you know the old saying “you get what you pay for”. One other note, stay away from ALL the Philips TV’s, they are horrible and you will waste your money. If you get 3 months out of a Philips, then you are one lucky person. The best TV for the money at Walmart is the Sanyo. I have never had one in for repair. Superb picture and quality for the money.

My Ilo tv tuner kicked out within a week of when i first purchased it. When i got another one from the store, the tuner worked for about 3 months then kicked out again. It is a horrible company. They make crap. And Walmart is not helpful when it comes to this brand. They know it is shit, that is why they don’t provide any customer service with this brand.

As long as one is a member of Costco, you can return anything for full refund or replacement no matter what the problem or how long you have had the merchandise. I think this is important considering how expensive televisions are. Most retailers like Walmart, Target, Best Buy, Circuit City, etc., don’t offer such a program. I’ve read too many sad stories of people getting screwed on their television purchases even with some of these retailers extended warranties that they charge you extra for. Thats why we buy Costco because we don’t want to worry about getting stuck with a problem appliance and trying to get it repaired. I know of no retailer that can match Costco for this kind of support.
21 Fred // Aug 13, 2006 at 8:54 pm
It’s sad that so many of you younger generation today think Walmart is the Holy Grail of consumer quality. Most of their products are manufactured in poor countries where the workers make less than $2.00 per day for 12 to 14 hour days, 6 to 7 days a week including children. Walmart imports a pair of shoes into their stores at a cost of $1.50 per pair and you pay Walmart $20 to $30 for that same pair of shoes. Then they coerce their employees to work off the clock for no pay with the threat of termination. A majority of their employees are not employable elsewhere for various reasons. They take advantage of them. I have come to really hate Walmart. It’s not what Sam Walton envisioned. Thats why I try do most of my shopping at privately owned businesses as much as possible. Keep some of this in mind when thinking about purchasing an ILO television of which Walmart lied to you telling you it was manufactured by one of the worlds quality manufacturers of electronic goods in Germany, when in fact those ILO products are manufactured in China.

Foreign born. Everyone is from somewhere else besides America originally. Get off it. I was born and raised in the U.S. but it gives me no right to hate on others that come here to live. The point is that society and the economy has really forced us to try to save so much on products that it doesn’t matter who we affect in duing so. God bless and STAY blessed. 24 Karen // Aug 23, 2006 at 4:40 pm
Wow! I was contemplating buying an ilo and will not do so now!! I expect to have a t.v. for a long time. My last one lasted 13 years and I expect the same for the next one. Why have we adjusted to products being disposable? I guess I am just turning into my dad. You get what you pay for mentality.
25 Travis // Aug 29, 2006 at 7:12 am
I bought an iLO 42″ plasma solely becuase of the price. It did not work right out of the box! Wal-Mart checked 150 stores and could not find another one so my only options are to have the manufacturer repair it or take it back (since it is still within 15 days). Your comments have helped me make the decision to take it back and spend the extra $300 on a Sanyo.
Thanks
26 Jim Childers // Aug 30, 2006 at 5:52 am
First time here. I’ll start by saying no its a bad idea to bye Ilo brand. I’ve been in consumer electronics repair more than 30yrs now and like to think I know what I’m talking about. Like the man said, you get what you pay for.I’ll be the first one to say I’m as much to blame as anybody out there. As americans we demand high wages but cheap prices, we want quality in what we purchase. well time have changed we can’t have both. There was a time when we companys could compete with one another for quality and price. That was before China came in.Next time you walk in to Walmart or any other store take a moment to see where the items made. We as Americans support our country and many other causes. But when are we really going to support the people.I walked in Tuesday bought a ceiling fan switch. Guess where it was made,China. Today I’m taking it back and I’m going shopping. As for Televisions,Try to buy from someone who offers extented warranties with a well known company. There are bad ones out there. Have a nice one. And think about what your buying,And what its costing us.
27 Steve // Aug 31, 2006 at 9:19 am
As for ILO brand. Everyone that said it is junk is correct. I too am an electronics tech with 30 years plus eperience. I should have known better, but hey a DVD recorder for 85.00? I couldn’t pass it up. 3 months and it wouldn’t even play let alone record. WalMart said - too bad - contact the manufacturer. When asked who that was? They didn’t know. If this doesn’t tell you something about them, what does? Come on people, this has nothing to do with Unions or wages or anything else. It is because you people want something cheap. And you then have the guts to complain when it breaks. What the hell do you think about when you buy something. I agree with the comment about philips as well. Lets see what’s happened to our television industry. RCA bought GE. RCA then was bought BY the French. Now RCA has recently been sold to a China company. So, RCA/GE is now china made and owned. Sylvania used to be american. Magnavox used to be american. They bought each other out. Then the Dutch company Philips bought those two. Now, IBM controls Philips service and parts. The quality of those sets went by the side of price rather than customer service.
Sony used to have a good decent set. When the japan employees didn’t want to work for nothing anymore - Sony moved to Mexico. Quality of the set? It’s junk now too. Everyother Sony will have a bad picture tube in the first few years including projection sets.
One last comment - if you buy anything new - BUY Extended warranties! Doesn’t matter what it is now - it will break in the first few years.
Steve

Well I have a Samsung DLP top of the line and the sucker went out in 2 months and is taking 2 weeks to get repaired. When I complained to Samsung Customer Service that a 2 week turn around was unacceptable (because I bought the warranty) I was told I was lucky it was not going to take a month. At least with Wal-Mart you can throw the set through the managers car window and feel some sort of immediate satisfaction.

I was thinking of purchasing an Ilo tv today but after reading all these feedbacks, I don’t think I want to go there. Thank you all.
30 LAD // Sep 12, 2006 at 5:08 pm
I purchase a ILO 26 in HDTV from walmart 6 months and 4 days ago and today it stopped working. I called the 800 number on the Warranty card and they answered within a few minutes (better than our cell phone provider) When I explained the problem they refered me back to the Wal-mart where I purchased it. So I took it back to them with a copy of the receipt and even though it was 4 days over the 60 day warranty (I also noticed that home electronics are only supposed to be covered for 45 days) They didn’t even blink an eye and exchanged it on the spot.
Although the quality of most products has dropped over the years, I can say that the service I got from the supplier and Wal-mart couldn’t have been better in this case.

I bought one and so far like it. However, when my cable company went to hook up the HD cable box to it, they found the color coded plugs on the back of the TV had the wrong color bands on the plugs. That makes me wonder about the quality of the rest of the TV. Keeping my fingers crossed now.

Just returned from walmart with my 26 inch ilo. Purchased it on 6/9/06, went kaput 9/24/06. There is no way to get anyone connected with this set to fix it so, I will probably have to spend 2-3 hundred dollars to fix it myself. Had I known this I would have spent the money to buy something different. If anyone is reading this and thinking of buying an ilo, my suggestion…save your money and frustration for something else that won’t work!

Judging by the HUNDREDS of calls we receive from angry iLo customers, we would venture to say these products truly suck.
We are, ilo (all lower case), an art and design studio in San Francisco which we started in 1994. Apparently Walmart has ‘borrowed’ an older version of our logo, altered it ever so slightly and branded their cheap electronics line with it. (Our lawyers are looking into possible ways to remedy this.)
ilo, by the way, is Finnish for ‘joy, good things’. We chose this name for our design company as Finnish design is famous for its beauty, superior craftsmenship and technology - obviously concepts lost on Walmart!

The Walmart bashers (union promoters) are just amazing. They’re clueless about everything, including business, so just squawk, like an irritated crow! Why do you morons think most electronics left the US in the first place? Its the unions, stupid! The price of labor in this country is outrageous and the unions just keep up the beat. Your work is not worth what you want to get paid? Too bad! Change it! You alone have that ability and opportunity in the USA. So, do it and stop bitching about Walmart!
44 Melinda // Oct 4, 2006 at 11:26 am
I received my 26″ ILO HDTV tv from my husband as an anniversary gift on April 26, 2006. He chose the brand because it had the best picture of all the choices. The tv went out over a month ago and WalMart would not even consider exchanging it. They couldn’t even give me a number to call to inquire about the problem. After calling 4 different 800 numbers, I finally got in touch with a ‘person’ and was told I had to UPS it to California for repair. I did as told and after they had the t.v. for 3 weeks I received a call saying the t.v. was not repairable and was being shipped a new one. I received my new one today and I am returning it to WalMart and exhanging it for a different model. Hope it works better but I think I’ll buy the extended warranty this time around.
45 Melinda // Oct 4, 2006 at 11:27 am
By the way, the book that comes in the box does not have a telephone number you can call if there are problems with your television.
46 Melinda // Oct 4, 2006 at 4:59 pm
Returned the t.v. to WalMart and the bar code was correct. When they removed the t.v. from the box, the serial number on the television was not the same as the one of the box. WalMart then refused to exchange the t.v. Apparently, I am stuck with this cruddy brand. I hope the new one lasts longer than the first one.

Update on the 26″ ILO t.v. from WalMart. After contacting the company again, I was told the original 26″ sets had bad motherboards in them and they had many of them returned. Rather than repairing the sets, they chose to replace them with newer improved technology in regards to the motherboards. I was also told the company was testing each set before shipping them to customers. This was supposed to explain to me how my t.v. and the box had completely different serial numbers.

I have an Ilo 26″ flat screen and love it. I bought it nearly 2 years ago,it is in my home office and is probably on for a good 16 hours a day. The picture is really good and I wouldn’t trade it in for any of the higher priced TV’s. I I also bought a Sanyo 32″ flat screen from WalMart at half the price of the other LCD flat screens on the market. Hey, If I can get a good product for less, then good for me!! Maybe with the competitive pricing, the higher priced brands will consider lowering their prices. I’ll take WallMart over Sony, and others anytime if the price is right and the quality is good. And it is definintely good on both my Ilo and Sanyo flat screens.

I have purchased 3 DVDRs from Ilo. I loved the 1st one so much I upgraded to the DVDR05 which I
love. However, I gave a DVDR05 as a gift to a friend. Needless to say it is picky on what DVDs it will play. I’ve tried to get the website it’s not there anymore now I just get this German company with the same address. I called the 1-800
number and it is not in service. I thought Ilo might have gone under. I was in wallmart today, and I saw a guy with a 26″ Ilo so they are still making products but how can a person get some service now? If anyone knows please post this information.
53 Melinda // Oct 14, 2006 at 3:58 pm
Kay, call 1-800-216-5156 for ILO. You will get a recording that will tell you if you are on hold more than 15 minutes to leave a message and they will return your call within a 48 hour period. The hours are 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. PST. Keep holding and they will eventually answer the phone. I’m not sure the 15 min. response is accurate as I think I have waited longer than 15 mins. The listed number I gave was the one I used to contact the company about my 26″ ILO flat panel t.v.
Unfortunately, some of us have not had as much good fortune as others have had with this company. I had to ship my t.v. back to CA also but at their expense. I am thrilled for those who have had good experiences but I for one will not buy anything else with ILO on the merchandise.

So far the service support for this brand has been non existant. Everyone should realize that after 90 days, the chances of sucessful repair on these products are fairly slim. Walmart takes no responsability for ilo after this point. I will be pursuing Walmart to obtain aftermarket service support, anyone interested may email me for updates.

Charles, according to my cable company, there is no code for external remotes for this t.v. Perhaps some technologically savvy person could figure it out, but when I had my t.v., I ended up using two different remotes to power it on and change the channels.
Travis, good luck. I hope it works for you. You surely do not need two crappy t.v.’s. and the ILO is definitely crap. I wished I had read this site before the ILO purchase.
Kay, the 800 number I gave you worked for me. The majority of the employees were very helpful with my situation. The company did replace my 26″ t.v. with a ‘new’ one. I was assured the t.v. was not a refurbished model but a brand new one. However, the serial numbers did not match on the box and the t.v. In fact, at WalMart the box scanned as if the serial number on the box had been sold in June. How in the world did a new t.v. get in a box that had been sold in June? I think the whole company is a farce and they are ripping people off left and right.

Leo the t.v. guy, let us know what you find out. I am interested in what WalMart tells you.

Melinda thanks once again. I left a message because I couldn’t wait the 15 min it takes to get through. So hopefully in 48 hrs, I will hear from Ilo. I hope they deal with the DVDR05/ZU models and not just TV’s. I’ll keep in touch.

I am an authorized repair tech for many big name television manufacturers such as Sony, Hitachi, and Pioneer to name a few. I don’t care about the political aspect of Walmart. I shop there from time to time, but I will never, NEVER buy any electronics from them. I don’t understand the ideology behind buying televisions from Walmart. I understand not wanting to spend large amounts of money, but when your ‘cheaper’ TV doesn’t last, you get upset. If you want your TV to last 13 years, don’t buy a new technology. They have not been tested, and are still making adjustments. I would buy a direct view CRT (picture tube) if you are worried about price and longevity. All consumer grade electronics are not made as well as in the past. Cheaper components are used, therefore they do not last as long. My best advice is to purchase an extended warranty or performance plan. At least this will guarentee that either the set will be fixed at no additional cost, or replaced if it cannot be repaired. My two cents about ILO. Poor customer and technical services. I just waited on hold o order a part, person I need to talk to is ‘unavailable’. I had to leave a voicemail, which I know probably will not be returned. I would stay away from this company. Polaroid has the same problem. average time of repair 3 months!!

I was given an ilo as a gift about 3 months ago. Last week was trying to change channels and couldn’t, thought it was the remote at first, but couldn’t change them manually either, or adjust the volume. Called walmart to see if I could exchange it, they informed me all electronics now only have a 90 day warrenty. Can’t find a number or web site. Can anyone help? I like CMT but not 24-7!

Unions destroyed themselves. It is because of unions that so many American companies went elsewhere to manufacture their products. Being a retired manager, I witnessed for 30+ years how the unions protected deadbeats that needed firing but somehow managed to get their jobs back. And the stewards that supposedly represented the workers were the absolute worst employees that ever walked the face of the planet. You bleeding-heart union people screwed yourselves and now your children must live with the results. I enjoy shopping at Walmart and will continue doing so. No one forces people to work at Walmart. They are all free to seek employment elsewhere. Maybe if the union members spent a little more time educating their children instead of milking the system, the people working at Walmart would have better jobs in higher paying professions. You really need to stop your whining and get out and improve your life. Quit sitting around looking for a free hand-out. Success and prosperity does not come free, you must work for what you want out of life. Expecting YOUR union to give you a taste of the good life will only serve to leave you standing around with an empty bag of nothing.

Kathy,
Go back and look at the entries on this page. I have listed a number you can call with this problem. I had the same thing happen. The motherboard goes out on some of these t.v.’s. They sent me a call tag and I had to return it to California. In my case, they replaced the t.v. with a new set. The message you will get will say you may have to wait 15 mins. Hang on the line because I’ve not waited that long. The folks working for the company are helpful if you finally get in touch with somebody. They will do all they can to correct your problem. (or at least that was my experience) It took over a month to get a new t.v. from the company. I still think the ILO equipment is a piece of crap and would never buy another ILO product regardless of how cheap it may seem. However, the folks at that 800 number will help you. I’ll check back on this site to see if you still need help getting in touch with somebody.

Well I bought an Ilo 27″ today at Walmart and was a little apprehensive about the “unknown” brand but went with it because the picture looked great and the price was very good. Got it home and started wondering again about my decision so I went online and found this site. I got a sinking feeling the more I read about this brand so I loaded up the new t.v. and took it right back to Wal-mart. I got a refund and turned right around and bought a 27″ Sanyo for $18.00 more and feel a lot better about my choice this time. I am sure any of the brands of t.v.’s are capable of breaking but I had never come upon so many bad reviews for one brand!

I have an ilo 32″ LCD. It has worked great for 10 months thus far. It was the best priced and comparable in picture quality to the other brands that were fairly close in price. My unit also has the mislabeled component connection as another person on this site but once I figured it out, it worked fine. I use the unit with cable HDTV and it is incredible (vs. older technology). I also use the dvi connection with my pc.
BTW, most extended warranties that I have ever seen are only effective after all manufacturer warranties have been exhausted. Is there a new type of extended warranty out there nowadays? I haven’t read details lately–I just automatically say no.

Melinda,
I also have a 32 iLo LCD TV that will not longer change channels. It just went out this morning and I have had the hardest time trying to find info about the problem. My TV is well past the 90 day mark. I won it from a drawing that my bank held in May and it’s now December. Do you think it’s worth my time to call the 1-800 number that you listed?
88 Bill // Dec 3, 2006 at 5:29 pm
My local walmart has a ilo 42″ hdtv for $1297 and it sounds like a great deal. I definately want a 42″ flat panel.. can anyone suggest another brand that is fairly inexpensive but more reliable.
89 Claire // Dec 4, 2006 at 9:59 am
I used the number that Melinda provided and reached someone who helped me. I since I won the TV I didn’t have the receipt and had to call them back after the bank from which I won it from gave me the date of purchase, etc. The rep was very nice and helpful. They are going to cover the shipping for me to send it to CA and back here. They also said that they would repair it without a charge to me. I am happy with that so far, but will post again when I recieve the fixed TV!
I called 2 numbers. The first one didn’t work for me because there are 2 different plants that work on the TV’s. The one that worked for my 32″ HDTV was 1-800-216-5156. The company is called Initial Technologies and the address is:
1935 Puddingstone Drive
La Verne, CA 91750
They do have a website as well.
The number for the place that didn’t deal with my model of TV is 1-888-482-8864. They did refer me to the correct phone number though. They do seem to want a receipt though or some kind of proof of the date and location from which you bought it. I hope this helps people out there!!

Now I have to make a living on $45,000 dollars a year as oppossed to $21,000. If the sarcasm that I laying down here is lost on you, I would suggest that you go back to high school and study economics again….more is better.

I bought a ILO 26-HD TV at WalMart on 9/1/06 and the damn thing started flaking out 95 days later. It’s stuck in Composite1 mode and I can’t change the volume, get to the menu, anything. I’ve tried everything I can think of and looked online with no luck. The only thing I can do it turn it off and on and watch DVDs. ILO TVs suck! I think they’ve built these turds to stop working right after the warranty expires so you’ll have to buy another TV.

96 Melinda // Dec 7, 2006 at 5:33 pm
Claire,
Glad the number helped you!! The ILO representatives were very nice and helpful to me. I hated the fact the television had to be shipped to CA but they paid for it. Luckily, my husband had kept the original box. My t.v. went out 3 weeks after the 90 day warranty at WalMart. The channel would not change nor would the volume change. The only command that would work was the off and on command. The ILO attendant informed me that the motherboard’s in some of these televisions were bad. She also said the cheapest way to correct his problem was to replace the set with a new one instead of repairing the old television. I am sure that the people on this site who have had bad televisions got the allotment with the bad boards. The folks who have a good ILO surely got one that was made previous to the bad board bunch. I agree that the ILO pictures are good compared to the other sets at WalMart; however, the brand is not worth buying for the headaches you incur for repairs. No doubt you will face repairs with this junk.

Im sorry but who cares how much they pay their employees? They chose to work there over Mcdonalds, who also pay minimum wage and work their employees just as hard. If people werent so worried about their tax dollars paying for people that are actually working… they would realize that much much more of our tax monies go to those that are sitting at home watching the iLO tvs sold at WAlmart. Unions are for people who can’t get a job any other way. I agree that Wal-Mart quality has sunk to an all-time low, but it has been falling since Sam Walton passed away. He is probably spinning in his grave at what his offspring have done to his enterprise (especially marketing products from China). Thanks for all the relevant discussions about the iLo TV’s (notwithstanding the irrelevant rantings of UNION members). I won’t be buying one.

I had the same problem with my ILO 32″ HDTV. It suddenly lost the ability to change channels, or anything other than turn off on on. Remote or the controls on the TV itself are all screwed except for the ON/OFF.
I;ve read several forums now where it is a VERY COMMON issue.
Thank GOD I am under warranty.

I must say I agree with you, I was shocked to see they use factorys in China that pay .50 cents a hour to make their products. That should be criminal, its making it where US companys will go under trying to compete with them. I will no longer shop there, PBS has a great special showing the underhanded tactics they use and they are creating low prices for Americans that are losing their jobs to all the overseas companys and can’t afford the stuff even at the low price

I purchased two 42″ plasma TV’s from Walmart last Christmas thinking I was getting a deal. Got them home and one had the Cable plug in broke off. The other had fizzed blacke and white pics. Then fizzed out completely and wouldn’t shut off unless un plugged. WalMart said I had to take it up with the manufacturer. They told me to take them to the repair shop. I did and they kept them 7 1/2 months. I demanded a refund or replacement. they finally replaced them three weeks ago with ILO 42″ Plasma. After buying a year ago am thrilled I get to watch TV, plug one in and the sound is distorted and the people look like they are in triplet. I GIVE UP. NO MORE WALMART PRODUCT FOR ME THEY DON’T STAND BEHIND ANYTHING AND NO MORE PRODUCTS THAT DON’T HAVE A NAME LIKE SONY, OR EVEN PANASONIC. Thanks to everyone who posted. I was going to buy and iLO but not anymore.
It’s sad that Mom and Pop stores are closing down cause everyone would rather go down the street to fight the crowds, screaming babies, and smell of piss to get their groceries for a dollar cheaper.
But on the other hand, how much money are people saving in the long run. I feel that Wal Mart will one day collapse though their whole bussiness is set up on such fragile principles that if they have a bad week they are hurting.
Anyway, I hear that Panasonic and Sharp both make quality TV’s with great customer service. I know Panasonic has a special “club” for its Plasma TV owners in which they are entitled to free phone support, 24 hour response to set up an in-home service visits (I think they’ll even help you set up your tv so you get the best picture), and some kind of benefits card that has all your information on it so you can get service faster.I’m not sure if they have a club for their LCD’s or not, but I think I’m gonna go with a panasonic anyway because of what I hear about their customer service, and they stand behind their products.

We had the same problem with our 32 inch Ilo. We had it three months and it just died. We went through the same process many have and were hopeful when they said they would pay for us to return and fix or send a new one.We sent it back-had to pay to get it packed up since we had thrown the boxes away. We got back what looked like a new one 2 weeks before Christmas and this “new” one died today. We are very frustrated and certainly don’t want another ilo. You think maybe they are just refurbishing them and sending them back out? We have not checked to see if the serial numbers on the tv and box match. mmmmmm…. Kathyb

To Steve and the others who have made false statements:
Get your facts straight! iLo products are made by Funai Corporation. They also make Symphonic, Sylvania, Emerson as well as some others. Definitely not the top of the line, but not some bottom-of-the-barrel stand alone brand. And better than anything Sanyo (who said “move up” to Sanyo… wrong direction, buddy) makes…
I didn’t buy an iLo, but bought a Philips 27″ flat screen TV. A friend bought an iLO and it is a much better product than my Philips.
117 Melinda // Dec 31, 2006 at 3:27 pm
Kathy,
I was told by the customer service dept. at ILO in CA that I was being sent a brand new television instead of repairing the one I returned. When I received my “new” ILO television set from California, I tried to return the ‘new’ one to WalMart and get another brand name. After taking the ‘new’ set to WalMart, the employees took the television out of the box and found that the serial numbers on the t.v. and the box were not the same. I called the 800 number and told them I wanted a new set in which the box and t.v. serial numbers were the same. I was informed that they had no obligation to give me a t.v. and box that had the same serial number. Their obligation was to repair or replace the set of which they did one of the two. I’m beginning to think they are recycling these returned bad t.v.’s to other people. In fact, when WalMart scanned the serial number on the t.v. box, it showed up on their cash register screen the box had been sold 5 months previously. They didn’t scan the serial number on the t.v. I wished they had.
118 Claire // Jan 1, 2007 at 12:24 pm
Terri - It actually depends on what model iLo you have. I have the iLo 32 LCD HDTV and it’s made by Initial Technology, Inc. It’s also sitting in my extra bedroom waiting for the prepaid shipping label that the company promised to send me so it could be “repaired”.

We bought a 42″ Ilo at Walmart on November 21st. About a week ago it started “blinking” to a blue screen and back to picture lasting about a split second every minute or so. Yesterday, I turned it off, or standby as it calls it, and it would not come back on. I have to unplug it, and then plug it back in, sort of like a reset I guess. Now I have read all this and am thinking I really screwed up. I did buy the 2 year extended warranty, so I hope that will be honored.

I bought my 26″ iLo LCD TV at the end of July. About 85 days later the remote, and the buttons on the TV quit working. Walmart allowed me an even exchange under the 90 day return policy, but informed me that the 2nd TV would not be returnable. 60 days later, the replacement TV developed the same problem.
I will not buy another iLo product.

I also purchased the iLo 32″ LCD tv from WALMART 98 days ago thinking I got a great deal. I was wrong. First the TV wouldnt accept a signal from the cable line so I had to use the S-video input. Next the remote and TV buttons both quit working. Now I cant adjust the volume, change the channel, or change the input source. I had previously worked with a rep from DirectTV to program my remote to bypass iLo’s - no codes are available! The TV repair shop told me not to waste my money and refused to work on it saying it was a piece of crap! The manual is useless and there is no customer service for iLo. DONT WASTE YOUR TIME OR MONEY - LOOK AT THE OTHER REVIEWS THAT STATE THE EXACT SAME PROBLEMS I HAVE HAD. I bought a SAMSUNG from BEST BUY who stands behind their products.

Tom,
I’m glad we have entertained you. I’m sure we all have jobs and hobbies since we have the money to buy the crap WalMart is selling in these ILO products. I, for one, have a good job and have been screwed by the ILO company. Find you another site to amuse you if this one bothers you.

Melinda ~ Im sure that “TOM” just didnt pop up on this site out of boredom. He’s probably a part-time employee at Walmart trying to be funny since he is the one sitting around with nothing better to do sticking his nose in something that doesnt even concern him. He’s a loser.

It would still be nice to find out what’s causing this to happen. It might even be a cheap do it yourself fix if it’s something as simple as a cap that over heated.

I purchased a 27″ ILO color television from walmart. As soon as I got home, I fast learned that most universal remotes dont have programing codes for the ILO brand. To save you all the trouble, I have found that the ORION brand tv’s use the same IR codes. This worked for both my DVR remote and universal remote.
Cox Cable DVR remote - 0463
RCA univeral remote - 1030, 1035, 1191

I just bought a ILO television and it is the highest quality picture I have ever seen. It was alot clearer than RCA, Sony, Magnavox..Yes the top brand names. To make everyones mind at ease, the Ilo is manufactured by the Funai Corp, the same company that makes brands such as Sylvania, Emerson, Symphoics and of course there own brand name Funai.Yes the televisons are assembled in Japan but you have to admit, American merchandise is junk. We are a lazy country and only go to work for a few bucks bur Japanese go to school all year long and take pride in their work. Comparing foreign to american goods, even there cars last alot longer.Who cares where the merchandise comes from. Having exports and imports is good for our economy as it allows free trade among countries in alliance and allows Americans a wider spectrum of brands to choose from. How would you like it if the only shoes to buy where Nike or the only car to buy was Chevrolet. THe world would be pretty dull wouldn’t it.

Scott,
I agree with you wholeheartedly!!! To Michael, I’m sure all of our televisions worked perfectly after we “just bought” one. I know mine did. It was the best quality picture of all the sets at WalMart. After the inital set up, the picture was wonderful and bright. The problems started occuring several weeks after. If I were in your shoes, I’d return the set immediately to the store and get a “top brand name” television. I have an RCA now and it is wonderful. Of course, anything can happen at anytime. Perhaps you will be one of the few lucky ones who have commented on this site and not have a single problem. If you’ll read all of the entries, the problems are significantly outnumbering the “wonderful” words for ILO. I, for one, am not much for worrying about where my merchandise orginates. I just prefer items that perform adequately and ILO is NOT one of those companies. ILO produces JUNK!!!! Good luck with your ILO product. I hope it works years for you. When it quits working, be sure and let us know on this site.

Ripster,
If you are referring to the problems occuring with the ILO television sets, it is not an easy do-it-yourself fix. According to the people manning the ILO 800 number, the motherboards in certain lots of these televisions were bad. They worked perfectly for a few months and then played out. The televisions, eventually, would not change stations nor would the volume control work. The only feature that worked correctly was the on and off switch either on the remote or by using the buttons on the set itself. ILO said the easiest way to ‘fix’ the problem was to replace the sets instead of repairing them. I’m sure the ones who have had good ILO sets did not have the same ‘lot’ as those of us whose television went kaput. I agree that the ILO picture was the best on any television screen in WalMart; however, the workmanship on the inside of the set was CRAP!!!!

Michael ~ Who cares where the product comes from -that is not our issue. Our issue is that the product iLo manufactured by whoever in wherever and is sold by Walmart is a piece of crap and no one including Walmart is trying to accept responsibility for the DEFECTIVE piece of crap. For Walmart to continue selling this DEFECTIVE merchandise as they have received more than enough complaints to recognize there is a serious problem with iLo is alarming. I have filed a formal complaint with Consumer Affairs in my state against Walmart for this unethical/unfair business practice. It is just a matter of time before your iLo tv fails like ours did. Just get ready to jump though many “hoops” to try and get service once it does.

Just wanted to inform all those who are interested, I went to my local WalMart today to return an item that my 9 year old received two of at Christmas. There in the service area was an opened box with a 32″ ILO television that had been returned. I asked the clerk why the television had been returned and she could not remember. I told her that I had one of the 26″ ILO sets in which the volume was the only functioning part of the set. She immediately remembered that was the reason the t.v. was returned. She went on to say the person’s 90 day warranty had just gone out but they were taking the television back for him. She mentioned a return agreement they had and I am not certain whether she was referring to an agreement with the ILO company or not. I told her the ILO sets were JUNK and WalMart needed to check into the company, whomever and wherever it orginates. I also mentioned this website and she agreed WalMart should do something about this brand. However, she is just an employee and a company as hugh as WalMart would not listen to her. Perhaps, we should all call the Consumer Affairs Dept. in our respective states and complain.
I find this site so interesting because it makes me feel good that I’m not the only one to get screwed by ILO. We all feel the same pain!!!

Sorry, I didn’t proofread my last entry. That word should be ‘huge’ instead of ‘hugh’. Believe it or not, I teach school and know better!!!!!

I got the 26 ILO for a weeding gift and when i was flippin though the chanels I some how knew this tv wasnt going to last. It had a really cheap feel to it,that and the fact that when i turned it on, sometimes it would not show a picture. The delay time was about 15secs. Anyway, the mother board went bad on my tv also. We all should write our complaints to the BBB about this company. ITS funny how the tv just goes out around the 90 day period.

listen, unions have their place in our society, but have been pricing americans out of jobs, because they are so money hungry. I do work at Wal-mart for 2 years and make $11.20 hr. Starting wage is now $8.00 hr. Check out Forbes Magazine in 2003 voted Wal-mart best company and helping to keep our economy in check, by keeping prices low. If it wasn’t for this we could be paying $6.00 for a dozen eggs, $8 or 9.00 for a gallon of milk, let alone everything else. You know why a box of cereal costs $5.00, because a union “baker” gets paid $30.00 hr to watch a dozen dials for 8 hrs (as was told to me by an employee of Kelloggs Cereal), and goes home and complains how crappy of a deal they get. Yes if it weren’t for unions we wouldn’t have a lot of benefits we have now, but don’t blame only Wal-mart for everyone elses demise. Look at the CEOs that get fired and get multimillion dollar settlements. Look how much it costs to go to a major sport event. Why not ban atheletes for using drugs
